Alresford, Hampshire

The pretty market town of Alresford lies at the heart of the area Hellards has proudly served since 1988. Renowned for its unique character, Alresford offers an eclectic mix of independent shops, boutiques, and local businesses. Along Broad Street and West Street, you’ll find a variety of welcoming pubs, imaginative restaurants, and inviting tea and coffee shops – perfect for catching up with friends or simply watching the world go by.

For steam enthusiasts, Alresford is home to the famous Watercress Line heritage railway, which winds its way through glorious Hampshire countryside to Alton. The town also plays host to two of the region’s most popular events: the annual Watercress Festival each spring, attracting thousands of food lovers, and the Alresford Show each autumn, a wonderful celebration of local farming, produce, and rural life.

Recreational opportunities are plentiful, with Alresford Golf Club – established in 1890 – offering a traditional parkland course on the southern edge of the town. Architecturally, Alresford is admired for its charming Georgian townhouses, many of which are Grade II listed and were re- built after a series of fires in the 17th century. These sit alongside a range of more modern homes and bungalows, particularly to the south of the old town, creating a broad variety of housing options.

Families are well catered for with excellent local schools including Sun Hill Infant and Junior Schools, and Perins Secondary School. For sixth form education, Winchester and Alton are both within easy reach. A number of private schools are available within a 15/20 minute drive.

Alresford combines historic charm, strong community spirit, and easy access to countryside and city alike, making it one of Hampshire’s most sought-after places to live.
